PRESS RELEASE: Planet Fitness Arrives at Shute Park Plaza

The national gym franchise Planet Fitness, has signed a lease at Shute Park Plaza in Hillsboro, Oregon along the Tualatin Valley Highway. This was confirmed by a representative from Kensington Investment Group, LLC, a family-owned investment company that owns and operates the center.

The 15,980-square-foot gym will be located next to Baxter Auto Parts and is scheduled to open in January 2015.

“We’re excited to have Planet Fitness join the center. They’re a perfect fit for the market and they will be a great anchor for the property,” said Robert Jensen from Kensington Investment Group, LLC.

Planet Fitness, which promotes extremely affordable memberships ($10-per-month) and access to a range of state-of-the-art equipment, may be best known for the Judgement Free Zone, a non-intimidating workout environment.  The fitness centers, part of a 850-plus, nationwide chain based in New Hampshire, feature slogans like "No Critics" to attract people who are not fitness fanatics or health club regulars. They have "Lunk Alarms" that sound when too much banging and grunting occurs.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Judgement Free Zone to Hillsboro,” said Tanner Halton, one of two Area Developers in the region.  “It will be the 6th Planet Fitness in the area and we’ve improved with each one.”

According to information provided by Halton, the Shute Park Plaza location will offer several new designs, including state-of-the-art cardio machines and strength equipment, fully equipped locker rooms with showers and individual changing rooms, numerous flat screen televisions, HydroMassage beds, massage chairs, tanning booths and beds, and Total Body Enhancement booths. The club is scheduled to be open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Kensington Investment Group, LLC recently acquired Shute Park Plaza for $5.5 million earlier this year with a plan to reposition the center.  The property is roughly 59,000 SF and tenants include Izzy’s Pizza, Baxter Auto Parts, Black Rock Coffee, Gentle Dental, and Express Personnel. There are additional spaces available and HSM Pacific is handling the marketing.
